Go Pink Wednesday #5 - Jem pink!

Hello, my lovelies!

Welcome to Go Pink Wednesday #5.  Go Pink Wednesday is when a bunch of bloggers and nail polish fiends wear pink manis to support breast cancer awareness, because October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. You don’t have to be a blogger to join in, though today is our last one so hurry up and join us! You can find more details over at Finger Painting Fingers, who organized this amazing event.

With Hurricane Sandy and the Frankenstorm she created, I pray that all of our fans and fellow nail polish addicts came through the storm as well as we did. It was a horrific storm and I have a feeling it’s going to take us a long time to dig out. My prayers go out to everyone affected.

To bring a little cheer and color to an otherwise gloomy time, here is my final Go Pink mani.

One of my two Halloween costumes was Jem, from the “truly outrageous” 80s cartoon Jem & the Holograms. I loved Jem as a kid, and still do to this day. I’ve actually been Jem a few times over the years but this year was my favorite. My mom actually made me the pink dress a couple years ago but I hadn’t had a chance to wear it, and then this year we went to the Spirit Halloween store and they actually had an official Jem wig! So I got it, and the inflatable Jem guitar (though Jem didn’t play guitar), and added lots of jewelry, a shimmery red belt, my ruby red slippers, and did my makeup right.

But for my nails, I needed something pink and sparkly and glittery! Jem is all about the “glamour and glitter, fashion and fame”. So I knew I wanted to use my Jem polish from Truly Outrageous collection by NostalgicNail Lacquer.  It’s a clear base with different pink glitters, and matte white hex glitter and white bar glitter. I tried it over several different colors before I settled on Excuse Moi by OPI, another super sparkly pink glittery polish (from the Muppets collection). The result? “Truly Outrageous” glamour and glitter pink gorgeousness!

And now the gorgeousness of them  together:

You can find Nostalgic Nail Lacquer at her store on bigcartel.com, and for updates, her Facebook. She also has polishes for Rio and Pizzazz! OPI can be found at many drugstores, salons and Ulta.

I want to give a HUGE thank you to Andrea over at Finger Painting Fingers for coordinating this amazing event and allowing me to be a part of it. I'm honored to have joined all these awesome bloggers to help bring awareness to a very serious and real disease.

Remember that even though October is ending, the need for early detection of breast cancer isn't. Regardless of what month it is, keep up with monthly self exams, and don't hesitate to see your doctor if you suspect something! Early detection is key to defeating this disease!

Everyone have a safe and happy Halloween!

Indie Review: Girly Bits!

Hello, my lovelies!

It’s a rather gray day here in DC as the East Coast starts preparing for “Frankenstorm”, potentially the worst storm to hit us since 1991, or something like that. Since Mr. Enchanted and I are big believers in being prepared, we don’t have too much else to do. (This is why there are 20 cases of bottled water stacked in the entryway).

I like to do indie reviews on Friday, so today we have GirlyBits! I have several Girly Bits polishes, a couple of which I haven’t tried yet, but today I have some recent colors, two from the Halloween line, and one from the Fall line.

I really like these three polishes. The formulas were great, and how cute are the bottles? The image of the girl at her vanity table, the signature stone on the bottle, and just the name itself brings a smile to my lips.

So, on to the pretties!

Today I have a fun polish for you. This is Cupcake by indie polish Hot Mess Lacquers! Cupcake is a light pink base with small holo glitter, square gold glitter and big pink hex glitter. Indie Review - Different Dimension!

Hello, my lovelies!

I have another indie review for you today! Today, the spotlight is on Different Dimension. Different Dimension is an indie polish that I had been following for a while, and tried out when she first ran her “Right to Vote” promo back in September, which I participated in and reviewed. I liked the polish so much that when she had a sale recently, I bought a few more, and had to share them with you! (and for the record, she has frequent awesome sales, so be sure to keep an eye on her Facebook page for them!)

I am in luuuuve with Different Dimension polishes. Fast shipping, fabulous formulas, to die for colors-they are awesome and a must try if you haven’t!

You all know how much I love the wide range of copper/brown/orange/peach/coral/pink. Well, all of the colors kind of fall into the fall brown-copper range because they were so beautiful, I just couldn’t choose between them!  So let’s get to the pretties!

Warning - VERY pic heavy!

Birthday Giveaway!

Hello, my lovelies!

I meant to put this up the other day and as usual, get sidetracked. That happens very easily, as many of you know.

So! Guess what time it is? No, not Hammer Time, though I am of that era *winces*. It’s birthday time! My birthday is next week, so to celebrate, I’m giving YOU prizes! That’s right, it’s birthday giveaway time!

The rules are below. Rafflecopter is doing all the work. Here’s a hint – most of the answers can be found in the blog.

1. US and Canada only only. I’m so sorry to my other international followers, but postage is ghastly expensive and shipping rules of polish are tricky.

2. If you like/follow the page and then undo it after the contest, your name will be noted and you will be disqualified from future giveaways. More and more of my fellow bloggers are doing this because let’s face it, it’s tacky and rude to like a page for a giveaway, then leave afterwards. We love sharing polish love with all of you, and it’s part of what makes blogging fun. Join the fun, don’t be a party pooper!

3. Contest ends on my birthday itself, Wednesday, October 17. (Technically, it's 12:01am, 10/18 because Rafflecopter won't let me change the time).

4. Winners have 48 hours to respond, and then I’ll have to draw another one. Winners will be notified by email, so make sure you enter it correctly!

5. There are two winners, I'll try to match you by the prize you choose, but if both winners choose the same prize, then the first name drawn gets first choice.

Good luck!

Now, the prizes! First is a collection of Jessica mini polishes. Included are Reward basecoat, a pretty pink crème, a silvery lavender, and a hot pink shimmer and Brilliance, a high gloss topcoat. Don't mind the glare of the flash, I could not make it cooperate!

Second is a fun pack of 7 full sized Simple Pleasures polishes. Since some of them have cupcakes on them, I thought they were great for a birthday giveaway! There’s an assortment of colors here, including a sparkly, glittery topcoat.

And the Rafflecopter widget!

Indie Review: Tipsy Turvy Nails!

Hello, my lovelies!

It’s another beautiful fall day in DC! Today I have for you a review of Tipsy Turvy Nail polish.

Tipsy Turvy Nails just opened in September of this year, and I happened to wander across them. They had some lovely colors up so I thought I’d give them a try. I love finding new indie polish makers and trying them out!

I ordered two polishes, Aurora Borealis and Coppernicus. As of this review, Tipsy Turvy has a notice in their store of a special for bloggers wishing to review their products. Visit their Etsy store for more details. Both polishes arrived within a week, no super long turnaround. Now, let’s get to these lovely polishes!

Warning- VERY pic heavy!

Time To Go Pink

Welcome to Go Pink Wednesday! Notice something different? Like, say, all the gorgeous pink? That's because it's time to Go Pink!

During October I'm joining a slew of other bloggers for Go Pink Wednesday, where we sport pink manis in honor Breast Cancer Awareness, as October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Finger Painting Fingers is coordinating this awesome event, and you can find out more about it on her page, as well as see the amazing list of the bloggers participating!

Many, if not all of us have been touched by breast cancer in some manner during our lives.

For me, it's been through several people. My godmother lost her battle with it when I was 15. My friend's sister lost her battle a few years ago. My mother-in-law won. Another friend won her battle this year. A friend's mother won a few years ago. Several friends walk in the various 3-Days throughout the year to raise money. We really can't do enough to to stress the importance of early detection and treatment.

So examine your breasts! Regularly! Get the mammograms!
