BZZZZZZZ! It's busy bee time!

Hello, my lovelies!

It’s a hot summer day, so I decided some bzzzzing bees were in order! I was surprised by how many bee manis were there out there, and I have a second one planned as well. They’re so cute!

The one I chose today is based on The Daily Nail’s, from 2010. I really liked the whimsy of the flight pattern in this. I spend a lot of time in the garden, so I deal with bees on a regular basis.
I love the spring honeybees, who are nonaggressive and busy with their pollinating job. The big old bumble bees that are cute and fuzzy looking, are the gentlest of the bunch. They just want to hover over the flowers. But those big, ugly, hornets ans wasp (including yellow jackets), stay away from them. They are the aggressive, mean and very painful stingers! Honeybees have been disappearing across the country in entire colonies, and this is worrisome. A lot of people don’t realize how reliant we are on honeybees for pollinating all kinds of crops across the country. Missing colonies is bad news for everyone!

For my followers that don’t have FB, simply email me your answers, as well as the following questions, to get the same amount of points as the FB questions.
1)    What is the Fluffy Tail’s name?
2)    What is my favorite color of polish?

Today’s prize! I have a set of 5 lovely Jessica polishes to give to one lucky winner. They are: Brilliance (a high gloss topcoat), Chilled Chambord, a dark red shimmer, Blue Diamond (a gorgeous dark blue shimmer), Sunrise (a beautiful copper shimmer), and Natural Beauty (a light, nude colored shimmer).

Rawr! Dragon Scales!

Hello, my lovelies! It’s Try It On Tuesday again, where we all try a polish we’ve had sitting around, but haven’t used. Thank you to Jilltastic Nail Design for the concept!

Today, I have Maisie Shine Dragon Scales. I was lucky enough to grab this on her recent restock and I have to say, I’m lovin’ it. I've loved dragons since I was a wee little girl, and my favorite Disney character is Maleficient (where my nickname Mal comes from), who turns into a giant dragon. I have dragons all over my house too! So anytime there's a polish with a name relating to dragons, I have to check it out.

COOOKIES! OMNOMNOMNOM!

Hello, my lovelies!

I had hoped to post this yesterday but I was out of town with friends all day and didn’t have time. So instead, I’m bringing it to you today!

I wasn’t sure what to put on my nails Saturday but almost everyone who answered the question on FB, said “Cookie Monster!” A dear friend was spending the night so we did our nails, of course! (and I forgot to get a picture of hers, damn!)

Kleancolor Chunky Holo Poppy!

Hello, my lovelies!

Today I’m wearing Kleancolor Chunky Holo Poppy. I got this baby for $.01 on Copious! (Have you joined Copious yet? Use my referral link toget $10 in credit when you join!).

This baby arrived on a scorching hot day when I was stalking the postman. I had to let the bottle cool down because it was so hot!

The first thing I noticed about this when I opened it was that it doesn’t stink nearly as much as the blue one I have! Warning: pic heavy!

Try It On Tuesday is back!

Hello, my lovelies! It’s Try It On Tuesday! Put together by the lovely Jilltastic Nail Design, Tuesday is the day where we try on a polish that we’ve had, but haven’t used.

I only recently became a fan of neon in the summer. But now I’m hooked! So I’m showing off a beautiful pink neon I found a few weeks ago.

Something I noticed with a lot of the neons, is that don’t seem very neon, and most require white undies to really pop. Evidently there’s something about true neons that isn’t allowed in the US, I read?

Another Funky Frenchie!

Hello, my lovelies! It’s Friday again and today I have a funky Frenchie for you. Jilltastic Nail Design’s challenge this week was a French mani, but it didn’t have to be the traditional white. Yay!

I’d been doing some swatching today so I’m a bit high from the fumes and feeling rather tired! Please forgive me for not being too verbose today.

Metallic Try It On Tuesday!

Hello, my lovelies! It’s another Try it On Tuesday where we try on polishes that have been waiting their turn!

I’m kind of cheating today and using 5, count ‘em, 5 new polishes! Today we have the Metallic Mirror collection by Essie. I think there are actually 6 colors; I have 5. I don’t really like paying $8 for a bottle of polish (well, for Zoya, sure!) but Wegmans was running coupons through June for $2 off each, so I stocked up. I’m okay with $6, that’s about the price of China Glaze. So the both the miser and polish addict are satisfied.

I did metallic skittles! I find it amusing when I used to wear what it now called “skittles”, years ago, I got teased for it. Little did they know how fashion forward I was being!

Warning - pic heavy!

Refreshing blues!

Hello, my lovelies!

Time for some cooling blues! It’s so damn hot out, I needed something refreshing on my nails. So I thought a nice blue gradient would be perfect for today. This is only the third gradient I’ve ever done, but it looks pretty even to me. I was very pleased with the result!

I started out painting the nails with Deborah Lippman Let’s Hear It For The Boy. This is a lovely light blue crème. Nice application, fully opaque in two coats and very smooth. I don’t normally buy DL’s because at $18-20 a pop, the miser in me screams in abject torture. But HSN periodically has duos or even trios of DL’s for really great prices. This one came with Dancing in the Sheets, a beautiful dark purply shimmer for $9.99. Can’t beat that!

More colorblocking!

Hello, my lovelies!

It’s a scorching hot Friday afternoon in oh, about half of the US. I hope everyone is staying cool! The Big Fluffy Dog, also known as The Rare Tropical Husky, wants to go out and sunbathe and sit under the shed. Mommy (me) says no. So she’s currently snoozing a few feet away, on her back, legs splayed, back slightly arched. I do know other people with Siberian Huskies that prefer heat to cold too so she’s not alone, but it’s a small percentage. She has very poor judgment when it comes to the weather!

So I decided to do some more colorblocking, for Shelley’s Sassy Saturday mani contest! This is only my second attempt, but I used two polishes that have been waiting their turn: Zoya Arizona and Eddie Mojito Madness, both from collections this year.

4th of July fishtail!

Hello, my lovelies! Happy 4th of July! This Navy daughter salutes our troops and all who served so that I can enjoy my freedom. It also would have been my grandparents 75th wedding anniversary (they’re both deceased).

First off, I have to say I’m Not Happy with this mani. I seem to have trouble with the weaving and it’s just super sloppy. I followed Lucy’s Stash’s tutorial, but I botched it up 4 times. 4 times!!! This is the 4th round. I’m too tired to try again. In the pictures, she doesn’t show using tap, but either she does, or she just has a great steady hand. So, next time, I will use tape to make the lines nice and crisp. I really like this look and am determined to get it right, so expect to see more of this mani style in coming weeks.

Rainbow sherbet colorblocking!

It’s another Try it On Tuesday! So today I have some shimmery, glittery colorblocking! Truthfully, I don’t really understand the whole “colorblocking”  thing, but hey, this mani seems to qualify. This will be a short post, as all I can do is rave about Zoya polishes.

I love ice cream. And sherbet. And this particular shade of purple, coupled with an orange, always makes think of rainbow sherbet (I know there are lemon and lime as well, but these are the colors that I always think of).

It's FLOAM!

or, Why I stalked the postman today.

Hello, my lovelies!

I worked from home today because after that massive storm on Friday, there are still lots of power outages and several stoplights on my route to work were dark. This Amazon does not play well with stupid drivers, especially when they refuse to treat a dark stoplight as a 4 way stop. It’s best for all that I stay home!

So that meant I stalked the postman. All Day. Usually we get our mail around noon. Noon came and went. Then one o’clock. Then two o’clock. Then three o’clock. You get the picture. I keep opening the door and checking the box to see if maybe I missed the guy. Nope, nothing. Empty. Around five I start dinner. Still no box. 5:30. I check again. VOILA! You could hear the heavenly voices singing. I snatched up my packages and darted back inside (mainly to keep The Big Fluffy Dog from escaping).

How it all began...

Happy Canada Day! Today is Canada Day, and I have a bunch of Canadian friends who are celebrating! One of my dearest friends is Canadian and I hope to visit her this fall with some other friends. I thought today's mani would be fun, to copy the Canadian flag. So I practiced drawing maple leafs, and I'm not bad at it. Unless I'm doing it in polish. Sigh. I ended up with blobs with points, and just super sloppy in general. Ugh. So instead of potentially offending my Canadian pals(though likely they'd just laugh), and saving myself some embarrassment from a crappy art job, I'm going with something else.
